【Is Bigger Really Best?】(NYT Editorials 1/31)

Anyone who's ever waited for luggage to come off a 747 will shiver at the thought of adding hundreds of additional bags.

先日、エアバスがA380（最大840席)を、ボーイングが7E7(最大300席)を発表していた。当時の記事を読んだ時は、「でっかいなぁ」で終わっていたが、今日のNYT誌の社説で、「確かにそれは嫌だな」と思ったのがA380についての上記引用。同機が採用されるとすれば、当然国際便だろうし、それだと、海外旅行だと自ずと荷物は大きくなるので、必ず預けることになる。加えて、入国には色々と手続きがあり、ただでさえ時間がかかるのだ。それに加えて荷物待ちも長くなるかもしれないとは、誰だって嫌だろうよ。
でも、以下引用はちょっとムキになってない?

The biggest ship sank a long time ago, the fastest jetliner is retired, and the tallest skyscrapers don't have the same glamour since Sept. 11, 2001.
